Silience of Chicago is an art magazine started by Annika Rae Keckhaver and Jeewon Han, with the goal of platforming emerging artists in Chicago. Silience is a made-up word, meaning the unnoticed excellence that goes on around us in our daily life. Through Silience, we aim to question the idea of artistic excellence: who gets to make art, and why we make art.
Our first theme, “Obscure Objects” highlights how objects manifest themselves into art in our every day. What do we hold, pass by and remain indifferent to? How do our belongings become vessels of memory? How do we perceive our belongings as a reflection of our own systems, class, culture and history?
To purchase an issue of Silience please reach out via email. Physical and digital copies are available at sliding scale pricing, $2-10. Proceeds from sales of our first issue go to HANA center, a non profit working to meet the needs of immigrants in Chicago.
We will be accepting submissions for the second issue of Silience very soon! Follow us on instagram @siliencemagazine for updates.
